As has been mentioned above, the best thing to do with the shimano ones is to rotate through 90 degrees to get the correct orientation. Another case of shimano getting the look of a product correct but cocking up the execution unfortunately, killed the oval ring dead in it's tracks which is a pity as they really work well!
