I thought this was a good basis for a restoration - neglected but saveable. The slicks, adjustable stem, and big gel saddle seemed to suggest a bike that had led an easy life. Here it is after cleaning and de-dorkification:

I thought that it would have been sleeved here, and can't understand how the wishbone was originally joined. My framebuilder friend thought that it could maybe be fixed by silver soldering, but I'll probably end up swapping the parts over to another frame.

Thanks everyone! If I find a replacement frame and forks I'll offer the original forks on here.

Can you take the paint back and see how it joined originally? Too good to scrap or hang up

I think I'll do that @coomber at least to satisfy my curiosity - it seems too regular to be a radial crack (?) but if it's separated there, how was it originally joined?

Yeah have no idea how it was joined. I've seen a few fail there though, it's fairly common on those

I think @prezza had a similar crack on the one he did, from memory it was on a similar join on the frame rather than a failure of a frame tube.
You never know - it might be salvageable, as said above, seems a shame to scrap it.
