The metal clip (think of a seatbelt type thing) and lock when locked together is "within" the sheath therefore has an outer membrane of 20mm all the way round it. The lock part is backed by the 20mm membrane too - theres no way you can literally smash it as the material will take the compression. You cant squeeze it. It would be like hitting a pillow.

what about the d-lock biro vid? Thats a barrel lock you've got in your design which will suffer from the same problem

Could just use a key type D-lock-lock.
Again - the lock part shouldnt be a problem, but I need to do more research into whether the "lock" part is the main weakness with bike locks or is it the the construction and material type if you know what I mean...

you have to cost every part of the design - will the metal parts be tempered/ tool grade steel etc
breach of any existing patents
bought in locking mech or own design and so-on and so-on.
