Are Campagnolo Record O.R crank tapers JIS or ISO? UPDATE!

Does anyone know for sure whether Record O.R / Icarus cranks are JIS or ISO?

I thought ISO, but have read the following on the Phil Wood website:

"Phil Wood offers all three tapers to try and best meet the needs of our customers who are using square-tapered bottom brackets. An explaination of the different bottom bracket tapers can be found here. In brief, most modern cranks will take the JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) taper, in addition to Campagnolo cranks produced before 1994. After 1994, Campagnolo moved to the ISO (a.k.a. Campy) taper."

Record O.R was produced before and after 94??

Campag road cranks are always ISO.... What's going on here?

Don't know my way round their chunky MTB stuff so can't answer.

Does anyone have a Record O.R bottom bracket they can check?

I've got a bottom bracket from a 1991 Icaurus chainset if that's any good, looks like ISO to me, longer taper and smaller end, hope that helps. k

Hello, interesting update on this.

I’m a bit OCD wanting to install a NOS Campagnolo MTB crankset on a couple of bikes.

I recently acquired a Zinn bike with an Icarus crankset.

It appears that the bike has a fairly new Campagnolo bottom bracket??

On removing the cranks I noticed that the spindle extends very close to the end of the square taper.
Almost, “ bottoming out”??

Assuming that the axle is modern and ISO; this would suggest that Campagnolo MTB cranks are not ISO.

After reading very limited, unconfirmed, information on the Internet; I think that the tapers are different, but not JIS either.

Below are photos, including comparisons to an MTB centaur spindle (black) and, I think, a ‘road bike’ Record spindle (silver).

Any ideas?
