Anyone tried to Nickel-Plate an Item Using Electroplating?

Am curious if anyone has tried this at home?

Nickel doesn't plate well, usually you need to put copper on first.

I've done some plating - worked well at the time but most of it has flaked off now. I can't remember if it was nickel plate or not, the kit I put together is in my garage if you want me to have a look.

I now do it at least once a week. We have a " bucket plant" at work. Nickel is by far the easiest to do.....

There used to be adverts in the classic motorcycle for nickel plating kits. Surface preparation is everything.

I've done zinc a couple of times and copper a few as well.

The plating isn't an issue. The cleaning is.

Think it's clean enough? Nope you're wrong.

I did all the nickel plating on this in the early 90's. Cleanliness is everything as is washing and degrading thoroughly between baths. Copper then the Nickel. Bought my gear from Chronos Ltd
