Fascinating reading. Thanks guys. Interested cos I have what I believe is a b3 with oval downtube with a pair of f3 forks. Unfortunately the rear shock is a tad lacking, what options are there for rebuilding or replacing?

I've not seen a specific parts list for the shock, but the AMP shock is a pretty basic coil over oil shock.

Best option really is a new Risse Genesis air shock :D $198 + shipping.
Specific shocks for the two B3 specs, B4s and the B5 still available.

Here's the two B3 versions. The difference is in the diameter of the shaft clamping shaft (wheel end, left):

Came across some AMP stuff recently. Can't quite figure out what's going on with this rear shock. No valve sticking out, it it just sheared off and broken?

Also found a giant box of those TWP braces in both flavors.

I'm looking at an AMP Research which has carbon rear stays and a carbon F4 front fork.

Is the F4 much of an improvement over the F3? I know there is more travel and weight, but it doses look somewhat beefier. I'm looking for an XC bike.
There are some comments online re failure of the rear carbon stays...anyone any experience.

Sizing is the most difficult aspect of this and thanks to Dan for his very helpful explanation. The frame is medium, but I'm not sure about the seat post. Are they relatively easy to find if an alternative size is required?
 
Without the back story to these pics you dont really know what it went through to get it to fail. Certainly that one is a big rear landing, so is it a case of the owner over estimating its strenght ?
