AMP Research research

Hmm..I'd seen the earlier B3 version:
file.php

but not seen that one before...kind of B4 hybrid since it's not the AMP back end...but licensed I presume:

I have to say IMHO it's not a patch on the AMP B4 lookwise....

All the best,

Thanks guys this is very useful. Couple of questions....

F1 & 2's had a falling rate for the spring and co-worker and alloy legs respectively. F3's had a rising rate and either carbon or alloy legs. F4's were longer travel and had either carbon or alloy legs.
Falling rate, rising rate, co-worker? Excuse my ignorance! How is that controlled? Is that the damper on the side of the parallelogram or is there more inside; an elastomer/spring for example?

Did AMP stop selling the rear ends to other companies when they sold the IP to Specialized?

Apart from the carbon option was the rear end always disc & canti compatible? Is there a disc only version?

Heads Up:

There's a nice late B4, red & black, with a Risse shock and rear brake on eBay Germany at the moment:

Looks like a small front with a medium seat mast, so ideal for 5'6" to 5' 9  "
It’s the right size but I’m still some way off from taking the plunge. It’ll be interesting to see what it goes for through as Risse shocks aren’t cheap.

Re:

In simple terms, rising rate is when at full compression the linkage is moving towards 90°, the F3 has this, the F2 starts with the spring being at 90° to the linkage.

There is a small damper on the outside, on the F2 there is n elastomer spring inside the coil spring and a top out bumper.

There were disc only and disc/canti options, if you purchased a whole bike as a disc model, it was specific, if you purchased a frame it was both.

It's a beefier version of the amp brace that bolts the two seat stays together to create a bit more rigidity at the rear end. Think of it like a brake booster for a frame. It will also have a similar effect on braking as a brake booster.

Re:

Got it.

Was the AMP version not fitted as standard? There seems to be quite a few bikes without them which makes me think they weren't, plus there's an aftermarket version.

Possibly an optional extra. I think it was called an afterburner brace or something along those lines. I think the twp version could come with an integrated canti hanger making brake set up slightly more central than the frame mounted amp cable stop.

Re:

They were standard fitment to B3's the TWP one was an upgrade fo B2's

Re:

Yup I was at the irono classic too. My advice if you want to run AMP D1 or D2 calipers you'd best find a original complete bike. You can't find or buy seal kits for the calipers. Even when you cold the kits we $40usd.

If anyone of you AMP owners have an F4 BLT that is surplus to requirements, let's talk. I'm on the other side of the pond, though.
