yes, and avoid those - but they sell Alkaline AA and AAAs - makes like Polaroid and Hyundai - not had any problems with them.

Did just that from Bobby Dyas a couple of years ago. I think it was £9'99 for four 2000Ah batts and a charger. Still going strong, and 4x 2650 Ah duracells are only 8.99 from the Co-op.
There's nasty stuff in batteries. It pays to use re-chargeables, and no reason not to...
