Looking good, glad you are cracking on :D

I would replace the cup and cone bottom bracket with a sealed mech one unless you like a challenge :D

Are they a pain to set up then?

I had considered swapping to a cartridge version (mainly 'cos I have the tool to fit one of those)......

They are pretty easy to do, but the sealed mech ones are a doddle

Looking great!

It's certainly coming on at a pace, and makes for interesting viewing.

Are you keeping the original tyres, or going for something more practical?

:D I remember looking longingly at this when I was buying my Maverick in the winter of '88. I am not sure if the u-braked model ran longer (might have come out in '87) but it was definitely changed to a Canti model in '89 as a mate had one of those.
Would love to get an old slack angled Raleigh again just for some local riding.

Carl.

Wow - this was my first mountain bike! I think mine was an '88 and it had a U-brake. I sold it to my dad when I bought my Stumpy. I think he may still have it. That colour is fab!

After buying a selection of old bike tools, including a c-spanner, at the car boot on sunday I was in a position to refit the cup 'n' cone bottom bracket.

Also cleaned up the drive-side cranks and rings........man they are oval! Should be an interesting ride.
