It’s still got the original 132.5mm installed, so I’ll be looking for something similar to that to replace it with.

Do you think a difference of 7.5mm from the original would be ok?
How much would postage be from Spain?

Not shure, the front mech may struggle to reach out far enough to the big chainring. I should have also said that it was OE on a 73mm wide BB.

I'm very confused now, you said that you still got the original 132.5mm installed, but look what TREK said about the Trek 8000 1991 Bottom Bracket specs:

If yours has the cantilever cable holder than anything past 1996/97 is too late

Besides you need to match the axle to your cranks not the frame (once you’ve established if you have 68 or 73mm bottom bracket)

What cranks have you got ?
