Oh it looks very sorry for itself doesn’t it? Stripped crank extractor threads on one side and hideous bodge to broken mech hanger.
But I can’t let it go, let’s see if it can be saved?

That’s rough! Fortunately I removed the bb using a vice without too much drama but this might take a bit more engineering!

I offered up various spare mech hangers until I found one that not only fitted but covered the previous owners drill hole from where he bolted through his steel mech hanger..

Don’t need that bit.

Mech hanger bolts are basically the same as chainring bolts so I went through my stash and found a nut and bolt with correct lengths. Tried a hub to check clearances etc.

Where the previous hole was I marked and then tapped an M5 bolt to hold the mech hanger in position. Belt and braces..

Should be good to go now..

Thanks, the whole bike was a bit of a punt tbh off eBay (of course). I was a bit gutted when I realised the state it was in. But then it did come with some Manitou Comp forks on (also a bit mullered but hopefully fixable).
I had one of these in 18” and I really quite liked it, this is a 20” (from memory) and should be spot on.

How it looked when I got it, literally virtually everything on it was munted in some shape or form.. 🤦‍♂️

I had it in my mind that the set of Quadra 21 forks I have could go on this.

After a quick google images search for inspiration I think these tend to look better on a rigid steel fork.

I have some slightly tapered Marin forks and some chunkier ones off a Shogun I think. My initial thoughts are to respray the shogun forks in blue and use a quill stem - be cool if I could find a proper GT one but we’ll see.

I couldn’t honestly say what the mech hanger came from, I have a fair few from various bikes I’ve broken for spares etc.. It fit the frame an absolute treat though!
