1992 Dawes Super Galaxy - restoration complete!

How’s this build confidence coming on?

well, you've got extra cable that you dont need and a handy entanglementoohbuggerIjustgotcaughtup loopy thing on the bars

Found these on my internet travels for a less flexy brake hanger that can sit in the headset. I have some stem mounted ones too but these are shiny

There we go. Went up and over initially as I didn't like the tight bend on the outer cable but have reworked it and happy with the result now.

I used one of those diacompe hangers in the past, they're very nice. Mine is a little more flexy than perhaps ideal but it is original and cleaned up nicely (as well as 95% of the remaining components).

I'll try and take full photos of the bike later if the sun pops out, as it's now finished (!)

I'd always turned my nose up at the idea of a pure touring bike but as the years have passed I've moved possibly into what's the perfect demographic for ownership, and now I'm kind of besotted by them!
Having chucked my leg over a couple of local bikes to check for size/fit I soon realised that a 58cm Galaxy fits me like the proverbial, one of those bikes that feels instantly familiar and comfortable.

So here's my new to me 92 Super Galaxy. I chose this one for both the rugged/familiar 7sp Deore DX set up, and that colour!
Although I appreciate the timeless and classy British green swathes of Galaxy's that are available I always tend to prefer something a little brighter and this fits the bill perfectly.
I'd read somewhere what this particular colour is called but it escapes me now, its a pearlescent finish and appears to have several different hues dependent on lighting conditions.

There's lots of opportunity to clean it up and take care of numerous blemishes (colour matching will be fun..) So far I've thrown on an old Turbo but I plan to add a Brooks saddle and some funkier grip tape.

I'm even having daft ideas about LEJOG on this old classic...
Everyone should try a Galaxy out, they're so nice to ride!
Lovely bike, I've just bought one in the same colour, bit of a long shot but did you happen to remember the name of the colour? Cheers

I picked up a similar frame in the mid 90's and I eventually tracked it down in the 1991 catalogue but it is in German and I can't tell if the colour is stated anywhere there. They seemed to have used it for a few bikes that year, the Super Galaxy, the Super Galaxy Tandem & the Mean Street (which mine turned out to be - same frame as far as I am aware but Unicrown fork). Being frame/fork only, I built it up as hybrid and used it for the last 30 years but as the paintwork is now getting rather tired, decided to strip it down and do a full rebuild. My bike was never built as original spec so I am not too concerned about trying to keep to stock. I have most of the parts for a rebuild but with modern parts once I have decided what colour to go with. I'll get the front & rear panniers colour matched at the same time and will be built up with Mavic A719 rims on shimano hubs (front dynamo hub & Edelux 2 front light), Tiagra groupset (most likely 3x10 but have a 2x10 set available as well), TRP CX9 or CX8.4 mini-V brakes, SKS Longboard mudguards, Schwalbe Marathon tyres. Still deciding whether to go with a new Tange Seike cartridge bearing headset or my 30 year old Strong light needle roller bearing headset.
