This was another of those affordable great bikes that received glowing reviews back in the day. Sadly it's £799 price tag was way beyond my means. I ended up buying a new Clockwork frame from STIF for £230 and complimented it with the usual Deore thumbies, Dia-Compe brakes and whatever else I could find.

This frame came up locally in Bucharest for £50 with a few of it's original parts inc it's BX-23 rims. The frame is just the right side of needing a full respray but with the help of the catalogue I managed to piece it together reasonably accurately. Main expense was the Ground Control Extreme tyes (thx Jez).

It rides really well, a very naustalgic experience with it's nice whippy Prestige frame and 12cm barge-like stem.

Lovely.

Everybody should try a Stumpy of this era at least once. Great bikes to ride

Thats so true. I know specialised get a bad press, but in my experience, I’ve never ridden a bad one.

And their higher end stuff is quality.

Plus it’s still true now with their modern stuff
