1991 Mountain Goat Route 66 build thread

2hours in the Forrest. This is my favorite bike. Thinking of BOTM-ing it some time if it’s eligible. Took some pics I thought I’d share.

I loved those wheels too, wish I could have afforded to keep them but I’m partial to HED. They’re made in my hometown, still make amazing wheels today and family run. RIP Steve. I raced them I bit too back in the day. IMG_5992.jpeg

I purchased this great frame on eBay last month. It finally arrived today and I was able to get it unboxed. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty clean. I remember seeing this bike in the magazines. I’ll update the thread with pics as I progress. I have some decisions to make on components, but leaning towards an NOS set of Shimano xt m730 front/rear derailuers and xt thumb shifters. Lots of stem, bar and seat options.
Gorgeous. I have a ‘94…currently raw steel while I consider paint options (original paint was too far gone). How did you source new decals? I would love to get my hands on a set.

These decals are all original. I have not found any mountain goat decals sources to date. If you find one let me know.
