He said he purchased the bike as a teen from a bike shop in Melton Morwbray.

That will have been John Machin's Cycles, small but perfectly formed and chock full of the sorts of things that make 14 year olds spend 3 out of 5 lunch breaks hanging around in there.

Yes that's the shop he said got it from, glad you said as I couldn't remember the name, and he did mention it, but my forgetfulness...

Seeing as it's olympics/Paralympics year, I would give:

GOLD: yellow & white

SILVER: orange & white

BRONZE: black

Thanks Mark, the yellow and white fade does appear to be the most popular. Although I personally would give the black the gold medal. Anyhow, am looking forward to seeing your one being built .. although I have more projects than complete bikes currently, time , money, but mainly time being the factor against me!
