1989 Jamis Dakar Comp - Pink, Purple, Prestige.

Success! Pick it up for a steal. It is quite a large frame, so I am guessing that the u-brake was standard equipment.

^ awesome :D is yours also Tange prestige? i'd be interested in the date codes of your components too. I think mine was an 89 based on the date code of the fork

Here are the decals.

i think it's cool Jamis decided to spec a Prestige frame with the Deore parts.. I wonder if they had an all XT model with a prestige fork too. I'd rather have a prestige frame and deore bits than a run of the mill double/triple butted frame with XT parts. In the late 80s there was hardly any difference between the two lines anyways

Front derailleur is "LL" - Dec 1987
Rear derailleur is "LL" - Dec 1987
Shifters are "LJ" - Oct 1987
Cranks are "LK" - Nov 1987

LOOKS LIKE THIS GEM IS MOST LIKELY A 1988 JAMIS DAKAR SPORT!

I did notice this has a Sport after the Dakar on the Top Tube and and Dakar Sport above the badge on the head tube. This differs from yours. Fun being a detective!

interesting! mine says "competition series" on it and the head badge looks different. I guess they kept the color scheme. 1988 would be in line with the ubrake as well.

I have no idea what was original on my competition series.. it had an XT headset and xt RD when I got it though

This says competition series on the top tube, too. As a side note, u brakes were manufactured from 1987 - 1992.

hmm i guess they dropped the 'sport' part.. i dunno

as far as ubrakes.. in 1987/88 they were popular but by 1989 almost all companies switched to rear cantis.
