The BOTM entry of this bike might be reserved for someone else on here someday.

One can only dream...

Rocco, glad you brought this bad boy out of the closet; sweeter than sweet

Nope, it ain't that one. I saw loads of pics of this bike when Rocco first bought it and it is 100% box fresh and original. There was certainly no dented top tube.

Do you recall the one that I'm referring to? It was similar in condition, size and vintage but had an unfortunate "blemish" on the top tube.

Yeah, it was a real heartbreaker. Such a lovely bike ruined by a moment of misfortune.

you might want to double check on that

and if it is, what's the great controversy? Is this a leper NOSish Commando?

I imagine there are a few NOS-like vintage/classic MTB's out there with some work done to them, much like restoring a work of art, does that mean it is somehow much less than what it was.

I remember the auction, and I remember the seller, he also had a "custom" made or labeled Fat City bike; it was a Yo Richard or Yo Dick, or something like that. It was also nice, and apparently controversial, as well.
From what I remember, he disclosed the damage, and had receipts from a reputable bike repair and paint shop. It didn't sell as high as a completely unrestored NOS one might've; stayed under $2K. One like this, without the repair would've gone over that mark, by a few hundred at least.

Perhaps some people don't like the seller much; his name slips my mind...oh yeah- pilgrim century is his name.
and I found the original thread here on RB, for this Commando's auction; it got a bit testy:

oops
wrong thread link; here you go:

Rocco, hell, you should remove the nos m730 kit, install it on a unmolested frameset, and burn that frameset for the bastid it is.

or you can just sell it to me ;)
(seriously, why malign this bike; if there is a legit reason I'd like to read it) :D
