1985 Peugeot identification. PY10 LS?

Hi,

Recelent prised this off my dad. He bought it in about 1990 from a chap who raced in. He did London to Brighton and a couple of other things and then it's done not a lot since. I've given it a clean, popped some modern tyres on and that's about it. Rides lovely! I think from the frame spec and a few other bits it's an 85 PY10 LS. Confirmed it's an 85 from the frame stamping, but that's the only details I have. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Thanks!

Hi, It probably is a PY10LS if it was bought new in the UK in 1985 , the PY10 and PX10 were essentially the same but the PY models were built to order and were supposed to take 12 weeks, , the PX version was the `off the peg` stock model ,For example Peugeot UK sold about this time a PX10SH that had Shimano 600 groupset but the same frame as the PY10LS.
Yours has the short lived seat tube design without a binder bolt and instead required a quill seat post, these weren`t popular or reliable and Peugeot dropped this design after less than a year. The same 531 frame was sold under many guises over the years , originally being badged as Professional and then the Perthus ( which was upgraded to 753 tubing for 1987 but early ones were 531pro ) , After that the 531pro models were sold in the UK under a variety of names including ISOARD and PUYMORENS. Things get even more complicated if it was a non UK supplied model !
Hope this helps? . .BTW you`re probably selling yours short with those 531c decals as the frame is almost certainly 531pro which was lighter than the 531c frame and I dont recall Peugeot selling any frames with 531c.

Hi, thanks for the info.
Interesting! It's a real minefield trying to figure these bikes out!
Yes, the quill post is a bit of a pain, having to take the seat off to adjust the height!
Interesting point on the decals. Do you think they are not original then?

The frame has almost certainly been resprayed , also the 531 decals on the forks are in French text and haven`t been centered correctly however the 531 decal on the frame is in English text. Whilst Reynolds decals on later 80`s Peugeot`s were in English , you would never have a frame that left the factory with a mix of French and English.

Odd that it would have been resprayed so early in its life. No obvious signs, though I guess it could be the same colour. I guess that would explain the absence of any other stickers on the frame.

Definitely a repaint. Chrome on the chainstay should extend to whole dropout and about 3 inches up seat stay. Peugeot also lacquered over their Peugeot transfers so since they are missing it is a repaint

Thanks. It must have had a busy first 5 years years of its life, as it's certainly had no work done since 1990.
