    96 Kona Kilauea

Thanks Anthony, I know that you're the resident Kona guru around these parts. It could be the rigid fork (which I haven't ridden one in decades) or the gummy Michelin tires or a combo of both but the bike felt like it was pushing around corners and not too confidence inspiring. It rides a lot...

    96 Kona Kilauea

Thanks guys. I haven't used thumbshifters since BITD and it's taking a while to get used to them again but I love the simplicity! I wanted to do P2's on there but trying to find non-sus corrected threadless P2 forks is proving quite difficult and/or expensive. I have a Kelly 410mm rigid but...

    96 Kona Kilauea

New addition that I just finished building up. The drivetrain is XC Pro and the cockpit is a bit of things laying around. Had a Judy on there but scored a non-sus rigid fork off of Ebay and am getting used to the direct sort of ride. It's my first Kona and liking it alot!

    ID this Frame?

Thanks guys. That's what I figured but since he listed it as a Specialized I thought that maybe it was cobbled together. Thanks for the help and reality check!

    ID this Frame?

Hi all, This frame is listed in the local ads and I wanted to know what it was. Pics are kind of small sorry. I initially thought Nishiki but probably not that lucky. He's claiming Specialized but I KNOW that's not right. Anyone got any clues?

    project ghettobike: 1996 fire mountain

I think I have a 7 speed cassette for you, it came off my '91 Eldridge Grade. It'd just cost postage unless it's too expensive for your build.

    1996/7 Ritchey Project-20

Here is some new iron that I added to the collection. I have been after a Ritchey P-series since I was in college but could never afford one. Something about the fluid lines of the frame, paint scheme and of course Tom Ritchey that made this a dream bike for me. I had been scouring Ebay and...

    95 Kilauea - Rebuild and refresh - Finished! 18/10/09

Nice one! That powdercoat looks great, you're right, just the right amount of pearl to it. I have a 95 Kilauea and know you've got me thinking about getting it rebuilt proper!

    Suntour XC Pro Freewheel/Cassette removal

Hi all, I just picked up an XC Pro group locally and wanted to remove the cassette to give it a good clean and such. I can't see any cassette style lockring or the 2/4 type lockring either. Any Suntour experts that can guide me through without mangling the hub? Thanks, Mike

'95 Independent Fabrication Deluxe "Test Best"

Sweet bike man! I grew up in Mt. Airy and learned to mtb in Fairmount Park, some nice trails very close by you're lucky. My real point though is you better stick a price on the ad or the mods will pull it.

    Steerer length Q

I just picked up a '96 Kona Kilauea frame and my existing threadless fork only comes about halfway up into the stem, maybe about 1/2" lower than in the previous frame. Is there any rule as to how much needs to be in the stem or do I need a new fork/steerer? It is above the pinch bolt but not...

    Marin

Congrats, that's a nice bike and ironic, I picked up a Team Marin this weekend for my commuter as well. I have some slightly different plans and it's going to be done on the cheap i.e. parts laying around the house. I'd post a pic but it is a 1998...

ProFlex 857 Medium in Grape! Oops, located in US

I am collecting too many frames and need to get rid of this. It is in excellent condition with a few paint chips for a 20+ year old bike. The PO used it to ride around the park and babied it and I only put about 50 miles on it or so. Mechanically checks out great and the bushings still have...

    Kona sizing

Hi all, I am looking at a '96 Kilauea frame and the owner says it's a 19" frame. I usually ride 17-18" frames or a medium. I am about 5'9" 30" inseam, a Libra and like long walks on the beach. Do the Kona frames run on the small or big side of things? Thanks, Mike

    AMP Research F1 vs. F2

Hi all, First post and of course a question sorry. Is there any real difference between the AMP F1 and F2 besides the aluminum legs? Travel? Lighter? Mechanical changes? I know that the F2 has the disc brake bosses but is that about it? Thanks and I am working on getting my early Mongoose...
