98 Steel Rockhopper Comp

Hi Guy's!
Here's my owned from new Specialized Rockhopper Comp. After a few small upgrades, Marzocchi Z3 Bombers and XT brake levers I rode it for a few years before moving on to motorbikes and sold her to a work colleague. After he hardly rode it I got the opportunity to buy it back and it spent ages hung up in the garage. Finally after a few mates got back into biking again it's been used in anger!

Current Spec:
Ritchey Logic Nitanium 19" frame
Marzocchi Z3 Bombers
XT/STX rc gears
Ritchey Bar, rims, hubs.

Frame wise it's in good nick but with a need for some tlc so the plan is for some new forks, XTR upgrade and new bars, stems etc. It rides really well so I'm hoping with some choice parts I'll have a belter! :)

Built one of these (a 1998) for the wife. Really nice ride was surprised!

Re: Newbie 98 Steel Rockhopper Comp

It has a really nice feel to it, not the lightest but love the way it rides too.

Re: Newbie 98 Steel Rockhopper Comp

i've had one of these since new..

looking forward to see how the xtr upgrades turn out..

i run it as a singlespeed nowadays..

but its still the best bike in the world.. and always will be! :D

Re: Newbie 98 Steel Rockhopper Comp

Just checked out your thread Spacehopper... Gotta say I love the red DX's!

Looks really well!! :)

Re: Newbie 98 Steel Rockhopper Comp

thanks! :)

its changed a heck of a lot since that thread though.. most stuff is now completely different!

Though it does still look pretty much the same.. and even has some NOS DX V-brakes on it now! :D

Finally found the right fork for it too.. a Marzocchi Atom 80!

must get round to taking some new pictures of it..

Re: Newbie 98 Steel Rockhopper Comp

Nice to see a proper one. Looks serious and purposeful. Mines had a harder life, And looks a lot different.

Cheers reainmation. I'll have to check yours out!

Well its moved a little further on now.
After the Race Face seat post I also picked up a Race Face Deus riser bar to match and a Race Face evolve stem cheap from Merlin cycles. Sorry everyone but it ain't going to be a period perfect build.

With the original stem / bar it was quite low so this should help bring the front end up a little higher.

I had a set of SLX 9 speed shifters which came up cheap of eBay so these have been added on too in readiness for a change from 8 to 9 speed.

Also grabbed a new FSA 'thePig' headset and Charge Spoon saddle and got them all fitted yesterday

Apologies for the poor phone pics!
