My favourites are panracer fire xc pro just love the growl on tarmac with them
So many 
Z max, psycho front with any panaracer with bar pattern on rear, and specialized tyres suprised me when i borrowed a friends bike once.
My favourite tyre of all time is the irc missile though not xc but the most perfect predictable and controlable tyre ive ever used

The 1990s Dart and Smoke Lite. The Dart wasn't much better than a normal Smoke but the Smoke Lite gave much better traction in mud than a normal Smoke - it was thin enough to dig in and find grip. I could ride up the golf course from the Plympton bike path (sorry golfers!) where I used to have to walk with a 2.1" Smoke on the back.
