The 10 speed chain should work fine on the chain rings. I have used all manner of combinations in the past with no issues. The internal width is the same for all of them. If a 9 speed chain will work on 5-speed rings, then I'm sure 10 speed will work with 9.
In the end I went down the full DA 7700 route (inc STIs) and an original red label flite. I'll dig the bike out for some pics but I'm not quite happy with the current seatpost, stem and bar arrangement so I'm on the look out for a DA 7410 seatpost (the Easton one) and I need to have a hard think on the bars and stem. I'm thinking 3ttt. Pics to come.....
