Sorry all but I have a 1990 trek 6000 which I thought for some stupid reason had a 1" quill stem. I have just bought a nice 1" stem but it is too small. I can measure the existing stem but I could do with any ideas as to whether it's a 1 1/8th or a typical American 1 1/14?

I have an original stem from an 18'' 1991 7000 for sale @ £7 posted if you want it. 120 mm medium rise. It has the brake cable routed through the top.

Thanks guys but I too have the original matrix stem and true temper bars. A am fitting a syncros 0 degree rise to it. Bought a 130mm in silver which I planned to paint to match the neon yellow frame. Problem is I measured the existing stem and took it that I needed a 1" quill..... Wrong. I have just secured a 150mm 1 1/8th 0 degree rise in black from the bay.

Cool good work there. I put Indy c forks ahead and a world force stem with Easton bars but mines a committed road bike commuter now but I kept everything from it even the unused tyres
