Modern forks question

Having the sum knowledge of sweet fa about suspension forks I though I'd ask in here.

A colleague has a ~5 year old GT with SR Suntour XCM V2 forks. To me they look about knackered, but could you confirm or deny this for me please?

On the left hand side the seal around the top of the lower section has completely come away and is up the upper leg now. When I pull the brake on there is (to me) huge amounts of play and movement in the lower's.

Does this sound like a refurb job? If so roughly how much is a kit, and is it a DIY job.
Or is the fork only fit for the bin?

TIA

39 quid sus fork? I would suggest bin time and get something used and decent.

Is that all they are? I knew they were a long way from "top end" but didn't realise they were that close to "bottom end" :D

I might just keep an eye on Ebay for some replacements for him then, I could swap them over one lunch time I'm sure.

Theyre about £60 on ebay
£80 at halfords

The newer ones aint too bad while they last, but they dont last.

Get something with a 'better' name too it (i say better name, maybe i mean better reputation at this point in time)
