I want to build a bike for a good friend as a gift cause his caretaker really dumped his old bike.
This seems a little small for him. He is 1,85m. And the Scott seems to be 17".
First pic is the bike like i got it.
Took it apart and cleaned the wheels, the frame and the fork.
Original fork is gone. Instead there is a 1995 Spinner fork from an Marin Indian Fire Trail on it. That's ok for me but the fork misses the crown race from the headset. I can't believe that bike has been ridden this way.
But before i search for a crown race i will clean all parts that are not in the second pic. That will keep me busy at least for a week.

Any thoughts on this? Tell me.

What was the green-black splatter area is now all black again. Thanks Edding 3000. :D

A nice BBB saddle, used LX front and rear mech, old STX brakes in the rear, black VP pedals, black LX cranks and some new reflective Schalbe Marathon Plus/Chen Shin Enduro tires found its way onto this bike.

It starts to look like a bike again. Not the beautifullest of all bikes but like a bike again.

Cool bike!
This used to be my second serious mtb bike. I bought it against the will of my parents and kept it in my friends house
It had very radical sloping for that time. Its indeed very small for 185cm guy. im 180 and it was on the small side aswell!
I had it for some time and then sold it to my neighbour. He still has it and never rides it!
Its in the exact, very nice condition as i sold it to him!
hmmm

@CAPIN:
Mine will be the first serious MTB that my friend there ever will own. :D
Go get your bike back! I need that fork and the crown race. ;)
There is not much that i can do about the size. Good thing is that the seatpost is long enough. Maybe i will get a longer stem.

More work done. Attached a DX Sti unit and some Ritchey WCS grips.
Black STX brakes on the rear and silver ones on the front.
I'll guess i have to buy a new headset and i am still in need of some rings to put on the LX cranks.
And there is a problem with the cable clamp. I can't screw it on because there is no thread any more to screw the bolt into. I guess the solution is some kind of glue.
Also the hub on the front wheel will need some grease. Will be my first take apart of a hub ever. I hope there will be no suprises left these bike has to offer.

Didn't had much time today. I tried to improve the look of the orange color. A gentle rub down with 120 sand paper did the trick. I'm very happy with the result. Can't do the same with the green because it's too dark so the difference would be really ugly. So no solution about that in sight. but i
found the ideal solution for the problem with the cable guide.
