This is a tricky question - do I answer in terms of bikes I've owned (rules carbon out), bikes I currently have (some bikes might feel unloved and rules carbon out) or bikes I'd love to have (all bikes I have might sulk and buck me off into the brambles at the first opportunity, plus rules carbon out)?

This will certainly give me plenty to consider on the ride home although clarity may take longer.

Titanium: Fat Ti
Steel: Fat Chance Yo Eddy
Aluminium: Pace or maybe Klein
Carbon: Trimble

I have to say that having had a think the above isn't far off mine:

Steel: Fat Chance Yo Eddy (or my 1991 Stumpjumper!)
Titanium: Orange Vitamin T
Aluminium: Klein Attitude/early Pace (the one with the Bullseye cranks etc)
Carbon: Absolutely no idea!

It's strange that as much as I think the Klein is great, and I owned a Pinnacle BITD, I wouldn't actually want to have one now

Does this thread mean that we should go out and obtain what we don't have or is it good just to have dreams?
