Anyone on here had experience of selling on Etsy?

I'm starting a new venture, or more sort of revamping an ongoing one, and Etsy has been suggested as being better than eBay for selling; lower fees, more specific, etc.

But looking up the basics of selling on there I notice they're a US based company plying to the UK market, and past experience of other companies doing that has taught me that's not necessarily a good thing!

It's vintage, quirky stuff I'm trying to flog, things like old teddy bears, toys, tools. I don't want to do a website, a Facebook page is as far as I've got so far but obviously that relies on people 'sharing' it and it being shared again and again to get the flow down, plus there's no point trying to sell on there until more people are looking at it, which means if you keep putting posts up it starts to look meaningless unless there's some real content.

So, Etsy, anyone know, or any alternatives to eBay?

I've not heard of etsy before Kaz but from what you've described i'm not certain about trying it so it maybe worth waiting for feedback from others about it even though i've never come across any one on here mentioning it before but you never what every one has dealings with on here ..

If i were selling those bits and bob's i'd try advertising in gum tree as they sell allsorts of gear on their so it maybe worth a punt ..

I've sold a few bits and bobs on there. Things don't sell as well as they do on Ebay, but it's free for a basic ad.

Hmm, trouble is chaps, this is all quite specialist stuff, can't see people wanting to buy it from a Gumtree ad, not in the same way they would a bike, for instance.

I suppose what I'm looking for is the 'net equivalent of a shop window, to supplement the occasional vintage fair that I will attempt to do. Which is why I was specifically pointed to Etsy, but with no experience of it's potential pitfalls....I'm reluctant to go there.
