Avatars - how on earth do you get them smaller than 8kb

I keep trying, using photoshop, and it's just getting smaller and smaller and more and more pixelated but the forum just won't accept them!? :evil:

Some of you have one's that are quite big - avatars I'm talking about! - and clear, how do you do it, am I missing something?

You are saving to jpg rather than bmp?

Get a photobucket account (free) load up the photo you want , then resize it using photobucket to avatar size, then link it rather than load from your PC.

Hi, yep saving as jpeg with image options of: Quality 6 Medium

This is the info I get when I do Image size:

Pixel Dimensions 6k
Width 68 pixels
Height 85 pixels
Width 2.4 cm
Height 3 cm
Resolution 72 pixels/inch

But when I look at the file properties it tells me it's 13.6k, which is probably why it won't upload?

The only way I can get the file size down to 8k is the have these settings:
Pixel Dimensions 1k
Width 24
Height 30
Width 0.85 cm
Height 1.06 cm
Resolution 72 pixels/inch

Which is tiny!? :?

Tried loading up to photobucket, have an account, but it won't let me re-size from the original 13.6k(14K) image?

Ah Ha!!

Done it, had to 'save for the web' as a GIF, and it reduced the file size but kept the image the same size

Or if you have a Mac. its easy to use Just right click on the image open with 'colorSyncUtiliy.app' then choose the size you want to reduce to - 100pxi then save and done
