Budget XC rigid build help

Hi

Bit of a bet with one of my mates (sober I might add ) as to who can build the best budget XC bike, I know there are much better and more expensive options but where's the fun in that

And this way I get motivated to finish a build

The rules are as follows

Frame and forks prior to 1997

Rigid

Budget £50.




The basis for my build is a 1996 Saracen Rufftrax, Tange framed. Stock seatpost, stem and bars.

The bits I have so far are

Deore LX/chinook wheels
STX RC cranks, front and rear mechs
Deore V brakes with parts bin levers
Cheap unbranded beartrap pedals,

Budget £25 for tyres ?

Any suggestions on where to spend the next £25



My Rival has a Marin planned I think, all I have managed to find out is that it has a Grey and Purple frame.

isn't that cheating if you are using stuff you already have?

Yes I suppose it is

But apart from the wheels the rest came from the retrobike Karma

Ah. That's ok then. You may continue.

I have got some Araya 20 ? wheels in the shed that were part of a Karma deal, so could almost make the build entirely from Karma excluding some new tyres
