A while ago I put our feelers for a winter bike, something to ride over the cold and muddy months that would save wear and tear on my more precious steeds. Here's the result, I purchased a 2004 Kona Cinder Cone on Ebay, the description and pictures made it sound and look better than it really was. The bike had not been maintained or even cleaned properly but it did have one important feature - disk brakes, Hope Mono M4's to be exact, so it soon joined my other bikes in the stable.

The parts that I have replaced so far are:

SRAM PC971 chain
XT Cassette
Deore Middle & Outer chainrings
UN54 Bottom Bracket
Raceface Evolve Handlebars
Raceface Evolve Stem
Lizard Skin Moab lock-on Grips
Raceface Evolve Seatpost
Selle C2 Gel Saddle
Mavic Crossride Wheels
Continental Traction Pro Tyres & tubes
Cane Creek headset bearings

Overall I am very pleased, it's a great bike. It's no lightweight, never intended it to be, functionality is far more important to me. Looking forward to our regular Thursday night rides at Chicksands Woods - see rides section for details if you can come along.

yeah absolutely. THere's a TT down the road from me in that colour and although I'm no Audi fan, it really suits that car.

Lots of that kind of grey around at the mo Kona have made the paddy wagon a lovely 50's grey. Looks so good on a steel bike.
