1990 Saracen Eiger Comp "Gravel"

Re:

I have not seen adjustable height cantis, htough if 700c wheels seemed more attractuve I would be inclined to rebuild on a hybrid frame like a Trek Multitrack or Marin Sausalito or similar, I think the 26" wheels will be the thing, maybe something without disc hubs and on lighter rims and folding tyres if the level of use justifies it later on though.

Did 14 miles off road this morning on Oxfordshire's Strada Bianchi, The Ridgeway.

Re:

A few more pictures from this morning. The n/w ring kept hold of the chain, had a couple of ghost shifts so a tweak maybe needed there but otherwise it was great.

Re:

I found this Bontrager 70mm stem today which has shortened the reach a bit. I was thinking 80mm may be right but will give this a go.

Re:

That looks great!
A very purposeful bike.
Love the colour and I bet at a glance people thinks it’s modern pretending to be retro!

I recon 80-90mm might be optimum length for looks and handling but see what is comfortable.

Great job!

Re:

I took this out this morning and had a good ride on the downs and Ridgeway. The 70mm stem is an improvement, much better for the neck and shoulders!

Re:

This is making me think a bit. I am riding this in preference to my '05 Giant Nrs. There are things I like about both but the simplicity of a rigid steel frame is the draw with this,it suits the chalk downland riding I have on the doorstep well. There are some shortcomings...the front brake is no more than ok and the rear brake is terrible, the frame is maybe a bit long and lofty by about a inch in either direction and shimergo 9 speed is a bit hit and miss. I can live with the size, I can sort a 10 speed gearset out for it but will have to experiment a bit with brakes!
