After enquiring, the local fella that did aqua blasting I found he doesn’t any more..
Whilst quizzing him he actually thought that it still might be too harsh not to dull the shine beneath the laquer..

So there I was wondering whether I should take the plunge and bought some of screwfix’ oen No Nonsense paint stripper cos I’m a no nonsense kinda guy!

I was very nervous about this but gave it a try on the forks... worst case scenario, I’d have to powdercoat the frame which was a factory option..

To my amazement, after applying a coat of this stuff, leaving it an hour, coating again and leaving it for 2 hours I returned to find that the old yellowing laquer just slipped away like thin jelly, with water and a soft cloth! Absolute revelation! Left no adverse marks to the polished steel and the frame is now gonna be a doddle to sort tomorrow!
Used a light scouting pad to remove the odd mark but what an easy job!

This is defo the way forward to removing laquer from frames which are bare steel.

Even the area such as around the lugs and welds simply rubbed away with water. This stuff is far better than Nitromorse which I’d rate as poor after this stuff and is less messy.

That's how I did mine years back, with stripper and like you say, it's rather easy.
Are you getting it relacquered or are you going to wax/oil/polish it?
I have a P7 that's mostly had all the lacquer removed prior to my ownership. There's some left around the BB etc. I'm trying to decide whether to clearcoat it or not..

Gonna leave it in un laquered but I’ll polish and seal it.

My Sunn Xircuit is naturally un laquered and is fine.

So long as you rinse em down and give them a re polish I recon they’ll last forever. Laquer will only degrade and yellow again over time.

I might have been nervous about not re laquering but the Sunn proves it’s not necessary even from the factory.

Taking a break from the Kona build as I await a couple of bits so getting this underway...

Frame polished with autosol and medium course wire wool after laquer was removed in previous post.

Has come up a treat.. but sore fingers after around 2-3hrs graft to polish frame and forks....

Have rinsed out all the drain holes with wd40 to give it a little inner jujsh if protection...

Will let it rest and dry for the night then a layer of autoglym before decals go on...

Unless I find a minter I've got it to come! That's the one finish I'm still looking for on a P7 - same as yours or the earlier one.

Well my techniques have worked so far... the hard work I feel is over so enjoyable jobs now as it takes shape.

Still have the hubs to strip and service which ain’t my favourite but the worst is over :facepalm:

Decals fitted....

Made templates before I stripped it so in exact position as factory.
