Probably Townsends top of the line bike back then!
Looks like 200GS Group? I'd expect a fairly heavy non butted steel frame, heavy, but reliable.

not quite the nice dark blue mine was, but still the sort of thing that would have ended up with DX and XT splattered all over it, flite saddles and alu bars...
