Mercian Strada Speciale

This is my Mercian Strada Speciale, it's a 1995 bike built from 531 Competition tubing. 73 1/2 degree frame angles; really spritely and nimble. I've changed the saddle, bartape cables and swapped the headset to match the groupset (Athena 8-speed). Also changed the chain as the original grease had hardened horribly. The chap I bought this from had ridden it twice since he had it built. He paid over 4 figures for it 20 years ago and i'd be amazed if it has done 100 miles since new. It's completely unmarked, not a scratch on it. All got all the usual Mercian touches; clover leaf cut-outs and 6 bands on the down tube although the 5th is masked by the derailleur band which is a bit of a shame really.

Blimey - the RBOTM has had an injection of popularity hasn't it. Never entered to be honest and there's a huge amount of quality on show. I may just take the slot that Bagpuss vacated with his Mercian? My quandary is that people have invested huge amounts of time, effort, money into restoring theirs, I've changed a few consumables on mine; feels a bit fraudulent given it's barely turned a wheel in 20 years.

I think most of what Mercian produce is timeless. Hadn't realised the quality until I went into the shop about 12 months ago. For a little shop I spent a lot of time ogling the frames & bikes.

A great find in such a pristine condition. Like new retro bike :)
Definitely get it in RBotM this month, its your bike and its stunning. Better be quick as the poll goes up tonight or the next day.
