Indexed Shimano 6400 shifters, clamp-on alternative???

I have some 6400 7-speed shifters which I want to attach to the downtube of my 531 frame, which has no braze ons; it needs a clamp. Is there any way of doing this, or do i have to settle for clamp-on, earlier friction shifters of another type?

There are modern fixes

But many Shimano levers were sold in band form with the slightly different mount that comes with them:

I have that band on one of my frames. Be warned though, the edges are sharp and over time may pull the paint off (that's what happened to mine before I had it resprayed). This time I put some 3M clear tape around the frame so it wouldn't be damaged again.

SJS Cycles do a 6 speed band-on shifter set for about £16. It's a modern set with resin shifters. You can simply take off the resin shifters and put your ones on instead. I did it with my Exage shifters. Indexing is done on the shifter itself so the number of speeds shouldn't be a problem. It's only the band you use.

Can't be as simple as that though, surely? No.3 in the middle of the diagram up the page is what provides the detent action, and is radiused to fit the downtube, but with the clamp, these won't fit will they?
