Regina Freewheel Removal Help

I'm trying to remove a Regina 6 speed freewheel. I have removed it before of an older wheel by taking the axle out, because the tool doesn't fit over the lock nut into the freewheel. However, I can't seem to get my cone spanner into the nut to remove it because the freewheel seems to overhang past it. Any ideas? Hope this is in the right section.

.....are you removing the smallest sprocket first? I vaguely remember having to unscrew the littlest cog first with two chainwhips (rather like a modern cassette) then you have easy access to the freewheel body

I recall hearing that somewhere. I think that is it, as the small cog looks removable. Will try tomorrow, thanks for your reply

Re:

I need it. I was wanting to clean and relube it as its sticking a bit when I'm coasting or partially pedal backwards, causing the chain to bunch up and skip.

Will undoing the cone on the non-drive side and pushing the axle through a bit give you enough room?
