Chater Lea listed frames into the early 30's, but these were really old designs by then. Their cast lugs were used by such builders as Hetchins, right into the 1960's. The problem was the bracket shell being only 3/4 inch for the chainstays, when most builders were on 7/8 inch round/oval/round.. So Hetchins used 3/4 stays for his curly design, which were round, and if the rear end was a bit short left very little wheel clearance for the usual tyres (27 x 1 1/4).
