Replacement rear shifters

Hi all, I suspect I need to replace my rear shifters....Shimano Sora..they appear to be past their youth, lots of play in the pivots etc...see image..

I don’t need to break the bank with one, it’s not going to do big mileage or indeed be used in winter, just new and reliable

That horrible gimmicky megarange freewheel is probably much of the problem. Most rear derailleurs still work fine even with a fair bit of pivot wear. Try an MTB rear mech as a replacement, Shimano Alivio or Deore 7/8/9 speed are inexpensive and work well.

Ideally swap to a freewheel with more sensible gaps in sprocket size. Shimano seemed to give the giant jump to 34T so that the cheesy MEGARANGE writing was visible.

O.k.....I’ve seen a 7 speed Shimano compatible freewheel..14-32...referencing sheldon Brown .com...it suggests that this change will not create any problems!!
