Has anyone done this?

I have a nice seatpost, 27.2, that I want to put in a frame with a 27.0 seat tube. Being black, I only want to take it down on the section that will be in the frame.
Can anyone offer sensible advice on this issue please?

Thanks a lot

Mike

This is one of those situations that seems alright on paper but very few people have tried this so there is little data as to what happens in the real world. Will it be ok or will the step where the post changes diameter be a source of stress fracture leading to the post snapping, who knows?

How to you plan to fit it in a lathe chuck if the seat clamp cannot be removed?

Why can't you fit a negative shim?

Ah so the Roberts is 27mm it will look pants mate as the top of the seat tube is curved and any machining on the seat post will have a straight edge you would have to colour it in to stop the silver bits showing.

I don't think any shim will make a small hole bigger BTW ;)

And for the effort involved, and the anxiety - will I die etc - just get the right size by trying a few old ones first.

May have to use the Kalloy one instead then
Or put an ad up.

Thanks for your thoughts ;)

Re:

How would you ensure it is round when removing the 0.1 all way around the post?
