Definitely not some early secret experemental model that RM made before they worked out what a bike looked like then?
Think rather than washing it, it needs unwashing. Or covering with some mud. In fact, just find a deep swamp bog and drop it in, bodmin moor will probably do the trick.

Looks like it has a top of the bottom of the range groupset on it (maybe even 200GS?).
Too good to bury, and with its gas-pipe construction frame it would no doubt survive a nuclear holocaust and still be rideable when the apes eventually take over the planet.
