sus forks with 1" steerer - options?

assuming I wanted to put some bouncy forks on my KHS, what would be the best options to look out for?

1" steerer, preferably threaded but could convert to ahead at a push. Ideally something easy to work on, Pace are probably top of the list, but what about manitou? if elastomers could be replaced with a spring, that would be a plus, I guess...

Girvins look interesting...

BITD I had a set of "ballistic" forks on it. But they did little more than add more weight :facepalm: Would like something at least reasonably rideable, by the standards of the day!

Pace certainly look the part and, technically good.

From experience. I've run rock shox indy, most models.
Easy to adapt and cheaply. Hybridising the elastomers with springs.
Faffing around until it's right for you (cheaply).

Also, RST are just as good and come in colours easy to get on with.
The proverbial escort cosworth..blue, white or red.

Manitou 2 and 3 are nice looking, but, let's not start about prices right
Now, commanding a certain premium. Still tuneable
As per rockshox though.

For period correctness, I would probably aim for a Pace RC35 or Manitou 2 or 3, both are easy to work on and new elastomers/mcu are readily available. A Rock Shox Judy is slightly more modern feeling and production began in '95 but easy to work on too and again the parts are available...

Dont rule out Marzocchi XC400s,an excellent fork,would be period correct and come up in 1" occasionally.
