Cutting the frame up :shock: I take back my offer as the Eldridge is snotty but not ready for the tip

I'll get it to Marc and let's see how it turns out.

Was at my pal's work the other day and some of the gym equipment they've got has a finish almost the double of a 1990 Marin so it can be done. Maybe an industrial paint shop would shed some light?

Totally understand guys....it does seem drastic but we are looking for a finish which is "dead on" the zolatone of the day....and having done much research over the last few years i have discovered that this may be the only sure way to get the correct finish.....

Having said that i'll still be very interested to see what a paint shop can come up with over this side of the pond....keep me posted please on developments

PS. Just remember 2 sacrificed low end frames / damaged frames could be paving the way for a resurgence of restored zolatone beauties on this very site......cruel to be kind.....as it were.

all good research. not easy replicating a paint finish that was to become obsolete and, not a brilliant product either, long-term.

i just need to get to few junk shops/ boot sales etc...

WE NEED OLD, BROKEN, ZOLATONE DONATIONS.

I think the paint would have lasted far better if it had been put over an epoxy primer.
Most of the paint on my frame is good, but there are a few areas that had pretty good looking paint but obviously had rust underneath!
I put a page together with some pics, if you can offer any better pics let me know. I have mailed half a dozen UK companies that do textured paint.

I have some fluorescent yellow paint and the frame might end up yellow;-)

Thanks to Brocklanders we have a donor 90' frame....great news as we can start to colour match from here.

Still looking for a donor 91'.....or prepared to pay a small fee for a frame.

That would certainly help me....on finding the right frame any donations would be gratefully accepted Think we just need to establish the frame to be bought...i'll keep looking.

Sorry, only just seen this but glad you've set up the thread anyway!!

We have now sourced a donor 1991 frame courtesy of chiswick collectables....many thanks mate!! Once i have the frames in my possession i can work with Marinator to send samples to our paint contact for a colour match. From there we will establish the cost for people to respray their zolatone frames.

We should see some more beautifully refurbished Zolatones on here soon!!
