yeah I think so, you can take a run of the mill palomar and sticker it up, or polish, whatever and the average jo would not know, so you can either impress them with your supposed coolness, or sell it to them for 10 times as much...

and alos i guess, that the alloy gt frames are pretty much the same (i know, i know, NOT the same, but they look the same to afore mentioned average jo) and GT used the similar frame design from the top to the bottom. Generally for other brands the bottom, middle and top end frames don't all look pretty similar.

I always assumed that the forgery thing was because the Zaskar was a well known name and desirable bike and something that those outside of the hard core community might recognise; combined with, as you say, it being a relatively easy frame to clone to the layman.
