it's definately a 16", i have a pic of both, not the best, but you can see the down tube runs parallel on the LE that is 18", the ball burnished is a 16".

Bought it!

Decided after a quick ride on the wife  's that an 18 was maybe just a little long for my 5'7" to do any long rides comfortably. So thought I'd grab a decent 16 frame. It has a few nice bits + a few questionable. Possibly paid a little OTT, (£430) but at least I have an all-but pristine bike I can enjoy riding. I didn't want to spend all summer bargain hunting so I could faff with building from bits.

It's a 98 model. No 6061 or 'Made in USA' sticker, (Not that I give a rip - the welding is all excellent and that's what matters.) Rear dropouts are stamped 6061 on the insides.

Hubs are QUADs. (Not heard of them till yesterday - been on the road for the last 15 years.) Rear one a tiny bit rough - probably through lack of use, well see. Is the brand any good?

Disc brake calipers are possible QUADs - 140 mm 5 bolt hole, with a poxy little (but nicely fabricated) stainless adapter that only attaches via the dropout .

Forks are RS Judy XC Hypercoil - Average rating on mtbr reviews.

Any recommendations for replacement hubs (or wheelset), disc brakes, and possibly forks much appreciated.

Let me know if I should move these questions to a new thread.

Cheers,

If you decide to go back to v-brakes, I'd be interested in this should you decide to sell it ;)

Cheers, I'll bear you in mind.

Probably wouldn't go back to Vs, as much as I like their simplicity, I hate all the shitty Al dust they make, especially in the wet.

I might see what the A2Z disc brake adapter is like instead though - mixed impressions on it's fit-ability to the Zaskar so far.

I can see the current SS bracket with more (wet/gritty) use will fret it's way into the dropout. Not that it would cause a failure any time soon; but not good engineering really.

Do you know who made the bracket? Can't seem to find anything on them on google.
