You Should Start a Monthly Bike Swap Meet

BikePimp

Retro Guru
We have them here. Once a month road and mountain bikers get together, usually at a different bike shop or pub around town and buy / sell / trade bikes and parts.

Last year I scored a Trek 2300 Carbon from about 1993 with full Dura Ace for $100 USD with less than 1000 miles. Older gentleman had pressure from the wife to sell excess bikes.

Got a Fox Talas fork for $100, Syncros Ti seatpost 2 months ago for $10, NOS Ringle front hub for $10, 2 Ringle stems ($5 and $10), Cook cranks for $30 etc....

There's usually beer involved so as people get wasted, they sell things cheaper and cheaper. One guy was selling XTR M952 brake/shifter combo for $75, but at the end of the day it was down to $25. Sadly I had blown $250 that day and I was too drunk to hop in my car and go to the ATM....so I purchased them a couple days later, but at the full $75.

Seams like you guys are awesome and such an event would work out over there.

Some pics....

Just one more pic....

Heck, I even got really wasted at this one and sold my mint 95 Kona Explosif with 300 miles for $80 USD (actual picture of my frame that I sold, photo previously taken at home)...after spending $200 already so that I could buy more Retro CNC goodies....

there's one local to me. it's small. but if people keep attending it'll grow.

the mud dock 1 has been going for some time now? hows it going? I'm tempted to load up a van & come over... but its a lot of hassle if theres low attendance with few people buying??

you US guys are lucky its such an established thing.. maybe more publicity is needed? STW mag tried it twice & it was a money loser for them :?

2-3 people selling at the last one. i think agency_scum buys as much as he sells though :p

York sounds do-able...I would just need to plan my yorkshire/oxfordshire-ness.

(i'll be in the stone roses pub ;) )

There are regular Bike Jumbles round the country (see back of Cycling Weekly) although these tend to be very road focused with gruff aging gentlemen selling shiny bits from yesteryear. That said I remember a NOS Syncros stem for a fiver and had a NOS Flite for £8

only 3? isnt bristol UKs 5th biggest city? I'm not having a go anyone, but surely with more advertising it could be bigger?
