I think this quote can be used in the retrobike world but swap the words 'play the dane' for 'own a C26/Fat Ti/whatever you like'

the spitit mentioned is so true, My mate and i had low mid range GT's BITD, I think in my wildest dreams a Karakorum Elite, would have seen me with 2 paperounds permanent! my mom + dad would have though I was mad spending £500 on a bike however serious/talented I was. Our GT's were heavy beasts that we bashed our knees on the stem, eventually we used much of the parts and built up Oranges, on mavic wheels. despite that I would search for one now. As I have great memories of these bikes, some of the trick stuff I remember but there's some seriously posh bikes bites on here that were so far out of my league then so mean nothing to me now as i didn't even lust them. yeah some pretty bits and pieces but meh!

Realy I could sell all my bikes and buy the poshest 'baddest' retro bike ever, well chuck a good few grand at one, cos I now rake in more than £6 a week! Not a millionaire, but can afford any "push bike"

I specifically rushed to buy 500LX kit for my Fox, XT will feature in future builds but 500LX was what I wanted. Similary this weekend I chased teh pro racers on decent bikes on a low-mid range Raliegh. Good thing about this I had nowt to prove, which is good thing really!

Well my 91 Lava Dome is the bike I pressured my dad into buying for my 15th birthday. It cost £429 back then.

If I was buying an old bike on ebay I'd probably go for a Kilauea or an Explosif, or a 90 Cinder Cone, love the paintwork on that bike, I think Kona had good paint schemes back in 89/90. A Hei Hei would be nice too but they are just so expensive even now.

I kind of like the idea that such bikes as my Cro-mega or the aforementioned Karakorum or the Pro-flex that went a couple of weeks ago, can all be had for money I can afford, meaning I can quickly acquire bikes without having to break my bank (and my balls), and sell them again once the flavour has worn off.

As for the OP, I'd love to find something as nice and original whatever it is. I'd also keep all the stickers on it - but then I suppose I could be considered a bit anal in my old age.

There was a lovely cherry red skinny Karakorum on the bikestands outside Hallam Uni today. Very eye-catching amidst all the blue and white Decathlon clunkers and battleship grey Hardrocks. I'd 'ave it.
