The Gate and the others are all fascinating bikes I would love to own.. but I would be hard pressed to describe any as beautiful

A curved seat tube is a much more elegant solution. I really love Denti's Mirage frames like this one;

N would be 1946/47 for that eBay one

The L might denote it was a Parkes-built frame. I’ve seen it mentioned but I’ve never had it confirmed.
