Xtr m950 hub - how rebuildable?

Right, in addition to my pinging spoke woes, I've discovered that the bearings aren't too healthy either according to my new lbs. So my question is this, how rebuildable is an m950 rear hub? I assume that the standard parts are replaceable:

- freehub
- bearings
- cones
- axle

But, can the inner bearing races also be replaced? If yes, how easy is this to do and can parts be swapped over from the m737 range? I'm desperate to fix the hub I have and avoid having to source a replacement hub and shell out on a wheel build (that said I've a wanted ad just in case I can't repair what I have, so what's possible, what are my options, or do I need to replace rather than repair?

Serviced just like any other Shimano hub of the era.
Cannot replace the bearing races on the none drive side, it's part of the shell.
Drive side you replace the freehub body
Cones are er... dunno but have a look at eh tech docs according to this they can still be had under some model or another

I would suggest getting it back and having a look for yourself it might just need a clean out and regrease.
the bearings should be fine as the Stainless bearings they use seem to be excellent and don't taint and flake like the cheaper ones.

ive got some links to a shop in poland that has/had some complete cone assemblies (cones, axle, bearings etc) for around £20....

All I did to find them was take the part number from the service doc, and google shopping search for it... even found somewhere on ebay in the USA that was selling some

Didnt buy any however, as someone here sold me an low mileage hub and I just changed the axle assembly over, but they are out there

I don't think I have any M950 cones by the look of them (shields).

Thanks, I'll get the wheel back and see what is afoot. Hopefully just the freewheel needs replacing??

they don't but you may be able to bodge something together.

So it seems all is not lost. The biggest issue was the poor wheel build/dish and this has been sorted now, even the spoke cross points have been greased to reduce rub/pinging while it beds in. Nice touch.

The bearings themselves weren't too bad, it seems a little over-exaggerated and after a clean an regrease the hub is running smooth. A few of the parts could do with replacing as it seems someone with ham fisted skills has been in there before and distorted a few things, but I've bought a donor hub for that, so hopefully all is well with the hub now, and it's ready to roll so to speak.
