I'm after a M950 front mech. Had my eye on ebay for a while but everyone seems to be after top money for rough ones. Doesn't have to be 950, can be a variation on it like 952, etc.... Must be 31.8 and bottom pull and in reasonable condition. I see a fair few for sale with the chrome plating coming off, I can cope with slight pitting.

The back plate is aluminium, and the chrome lifts very easily with time, wear and corrosion.
This is why good condition ones are rare expensive, and rough ones are common.

This design suffers pivot wear too, making selection for the small ring tricky; even straight out the box it wasn't always good.
If it's for a rider, and you actually need three rings, you'll probably need to go as mint as possible, or NOS.

I have a 953 in really nice condition which was going to be for a Specialized I could use. The one I want is for a GT and ideally didn't want to shim it. The bands are quite slim on the xtr so didn't want excess plastic showing. The bike won't be a rider so more concerned with how it looks than perfect shifting. From what I've seen the top clamp versions seen to survive better than the bottom clamp ones. I don't mind paying decent money for a good one, I'm just not parting with ebay prices for one that the chrome's falling off.
