xt rear mech

If it's fitted to the bike already - then when you increase the cable tension (like by pressing the thumb lever on rapidfire shifters) then the mech will move from the bigger sprockets to the smaller sprockets if it's a rapid rise model. On normal rear mechs increasing the cable tension moves the mech from small to big.

If it's not already on a bike then if it's a rapid rise rear mech it will probably look like it's sitting at an odd angle for a rear mech, like these:
